Why so many Flip Flops?

Monday, August 10th, 2009
My brother asked why all the flip flops in the pictures. Well…………..I made the quilt to hang in my studio during Summer Camps. It hangs on the “Wall of Fame” (where the students stand to have their picture take of the projects they have made). (To the Beach and Beyond)
This quilt will hang on the “Wall of Fame” starting in September for the Back to School season.

Moving things again

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Well, I have been doing some minor changes to the arrangement in my studio once again. I originally had the recliner between George and my Bernina sewing machine. I was going to have to move the recliner anytime I wanted to use George. This is exactly what I have been trying to avoid while I have been putting things away and rearranging after the remodel. I want to have things usable and not have to move a bunch of stuff when using something. So with this in mind, I moved the chair to the right and put my sewing machine next to George. I really like this set-up. I don’t know if it is the greatest for Tom and watchin TV from the recliner – we will have to see. With this new arrangement I even used George to sew some of the reusable grocery bags that the Village Squares Quilters are going to be selling at the quilt show in November. Want a designer grocery bag, let me know and we will see what we can work out.
I put the whitish drawers to the right. The color is not the best, but I have all my machine quilting books in the bottom drawer and Bernina supplies (bobbins, feet, ect) that I like at my finger tips in the open space and top drawers. The color is not the greatest – but the space to organize in is wonderful. If I find something that will work but is a better color choice I may change it.
Last night I started adding more bees to the Gift Bag Swap quilt project. I love the bees and decided that I want some more on the quilt.

The George table is great to have next to my Bernina because now I have even more work space. Do you see me smiling? I really do love my basement!

The FLOOD

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008
Last Saturday Tom had a bunch of things that he wanted(needed) to get done. I asked him what I could do to help him. He started to name the things that he wanted to do and one of them was to clean the bathroom. I said I could do that. I got out the cleaning supplies and went to work. Tom came in the bathroom and mentioned that he had used the same supplies and could not get the mold off the bath tub. Well this is all that needed to be said – I was bound and determined to get rid of the mold now. I scrub and scrub and scrub. I then used some bleach and I did get rid of the mold. Well, now I was on a roll, I now continued to deep clean the entire bathroom. The last thing I did was to put the RED rugs and towels (which are only for looks) into wash. A while later I went to the the basement and realized that the carept was damp (no WET!). During my investigation of what happened I determined that a box of tissues had fallen into the utility sink where the washer drains and the water could not go down the drain and went into the floor. And alot of water went onto the floor.
I am sure glad that we decided to put the carpet down without pad. Made the clean-up from this mishap alot easier. In one area we had pink tye-dyed carpet from the water staining the carpet.
See our coast line – not quite what I wanted in my new studio.
While we had everything off the shelves and pulled away from the wall I decided this was the perfect opportunity to made the curtains for these shelves – so that is what I did. I really didn’t want to move the shelves again.

Today (1 week later) Tom is cleaning the carpet. We got the carpet dried and everything put back for Summer Sewing camps to start on Monday. But, there was a definate water (or soap) mark on the carpet. We want to try and get rid of that.
It is looking much better. Now to get the carpet dry again and everything in place for another camp to start on Monday.

Studio Update

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008
Here is the latest arrangement.
Tom’s new chair.
I get the feeling that I have not gotten anything done and then I go and look at what the students have accomplished during camp. So, here are some of the things I have completed vicarously.

Thursday after sewing camp was over I drove up to Girl’s Camp to spend Thursday evening and Friday.

The girls from New Rochelle II.

Hiding the junk (stuff)!!!!!

Monday, July 7th, 2008
Now the fun begins. We have all the big jobs completed on the basement. Tom even added another light for me on Saturday. One corner by the furnace was still somewhat dark. The students didn’t complain, but I sure would not have wanted to sew back there. But now with the new light I would even like to sew there. I have started making some of the things that will help make my studio looked even sharper. Here is the sink that the washer drains into. I store my extra detergent under it……
but now you would never guess that is where my detergent is.

I really like the table perpendicular to the wall. But the stuff under it looks junky – not to worry…..
A curtain will do wonders to hide that also.
I even made the clock so it would match what is going on in the sewing room. I copied the old face of the clock and just printed it on the lime green fabric. Right now Tom doesn’t like the clock this way, but he says it’s my studio and I can do what I want. What do you think of my clock. Should it stay or go?

Waiting for the Sewing Campers

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008
The unpacking is not yet completed, but we got enough done to start camp on Monday.

I love the new plastic boxes I have for the inventory on top of this cabinet.
I still want to hang a curtain to make it look nicer.

I think it is fun having all the antique (or old) sewing machines displayed in one place.
Now I just need to make the curtains to make the shelves looker sharper.
I didn’t even get a new ironing board cover – that will have to be one of the first projects.

I ended up just sticking some stuff back in the two corners because I was running out of time.
My goal is – to be able to walk into this corner at all times.
(I am not doing to well with my new goal!)
But, look how much nicer the corner ceiling looks compared to what it looked like before.

The great Exodus from the living room to the basement begins.

This is one of the young women and her sister from my ward.

This is the YW president. She was actually in the Young Women’s program with Emily when we lived in Maryland. It is a small world.
This the YW’s president’s son. He was in the Nursery when Tom and I worked in the Nursery. When his mom said that she was going to the Ciccotell’s he want to come.
Will came and worked for us on Saturday. He was GREAT help. If you need a good worker, call Will.
Tom working with the shelves to get them JUST RIGHT!
(Tom is so good at stuff like that.)

A lunch break. On the right are Chris and Christy.

Thanks to EVERYONE that came and helped.
It was a very HOT day but no complaints were heard.

***************DRUM ROLL PLEASE *************

THE YANKEE SEATS!!!!!!!!!!

Shots of how my studio looked Saturday night just before we went to bed.

Think I will be doing some Sunday sinning to get ready for camps that start on Monday.

The Carpet is in :)

Friday, June 27th, 2008
Here is an overall view of the room from the door.

The guys did a great job cutting close to all the funny things we have on the floor.

They even did a little zigging and zagging to match the rock wall edge.
One seam in all of this, and it is under the last stair.
They cut very close (just like Tom did last time) to the edge of this cabinet.
Now the fun begins, tommorow is going to be a BIG day!
It’s time to put all the stuff away!

Installing the carpet

Friday, June 27th, 2008
Is this exciting or what!!!!

Binding the edges of the carpet – cool sewing machine on wheels!

Ready for the carpet!!!!!

Friday, June 27th, 2008
The day for the carpet is here and everything (almost everything) is ready!

I am sure the guy that came to measure the carpet would not recognize the space. I told him that we would have everything moved out except for a few items. When I went to pay for the carpet he had put a charge on there to move excessive amounts of furniture. I made them take it off. This pictures show the four pieces of furniture that have to be moved.
One of the things that I did not get done was to paint the stairs.
Also, I did not get the metal pipes for the outlets painted.
Guess I will have to try and be very careful and not paint like a slob!
I wanted to clean this cabinet off, but that didn’t happen either. (See in the left side of the picture, you can see the metal pipes that I want to paint.)
