This and That

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008
This is the small Stack n’ Wack that I made from scraps that were left over from Melanie (my neice) and Ben’s wedding gift quilt.
(Pieced in 2002 or 2003)
I had one block left so I decided to use it on the back of the quilt. I originally had enough of the floral for the back but one of my sewing students was using this floral for her borders and she couldn’t find the pieces we had cut when she started the project so I let her use the floral fabric that I had set aside for the back.
QPN (Quilt Professional Network) has an annual conference in the Spring. Last conference (2007) we each received a vintage block with the challenge to make an 18″ mini quilt using the block. The conference is April 4-6. Guess the QUEEN OF THE LAST MINUTE better get busy.
I had one idea, but before I got the block taken apart, I had designed another quilt, and that is the direction that I am heading. I will be using every peice of fabric from the original block.

I don’t really like the mulsin because the white/blue points get lost and you can’t see them.
Not really sold on this color either. Decided to see what I could find while at the Lancaster Quilt show on Saturday.

Best of Show

This quilt was made by Nancy Prince. I took a class from her on Thread Painting. Her work is amamzing.

Here are a few more pictures from the show.

This one is a really intense Stack n’ Whack!

Enjoyed the show, spent some money on some fun notions and gaggets. Purchased the Curve Master foot for the machine. It looks like it will make doing circles really easy. They were out of stock, so I am waiting to receive it. I’ll let you know what I think when I receive it.

Have a great day!!!!

UFO projects completed January 2008

Pinwheel Magic #2 This quilt is based on the same quilt that Emily designed for her wedding quilt in 2002.
One evening last week I went to my studio to sew two LARGE pieces of blue fabric together for the back of this quit. I looked at this large bag of scraps I had from the two purple and blue quilts I made for Emily and Ben’s wedding gifts and thought I could use a few of the larger pieces in the back with the yardage of blue fabric. Well, after a few hours it became my challenge to construct the back for this quilt from only scraps. And that is exactly what I did!
By now I was on a roll – so I decided that I could also peice together a few large pieces of batting. I am smiling alot when I look at this quilt. I used up the bag of scraps, used pieces of batting that I had laying around that I really didn’t have a place to store and I have this quilt hanging on my railing upstairs and can enjoy it! (Thank you Jennie and Emily for your encouragement in working on my UFO’s this year!)
Here is a detail of the quilting first from the back of the quilt and then from the front.

And the label for the quilt.

Other projects worked on during January 2008

1. Folded 9 hexagon flowers units for Grandma’s Hexagarden wallhanging

2. Cut batik scraps into squares and triangles for QQQ quilt

3. Worked on piecing mountains for Jennie’s graduation quilt (my NOYB project – pictures next week)
4. Made curtain for Jennie’s kitchen cabinet
5. Made a new body for Autumn’s baby Atikus
6. Worked on Gift Bag swap quilt (completed top, redesigned, took apart and put back together, was not completey happy, took apart again and repieced except borders)

Here is the top put back together the second time,
upon looking at it I decided that the orange was too big (you loose the circle in the center).

The top reconstructed (third time is the charm) awaiting the border and applique.
