This morning I moved our bed into the guest bedroom. This means 2 things – the guest bedroom is almost done and I am getting ready to start painting our bedroom. We will sleep in this room while we are painting our room.I have one more circle section of this quilt to do. I think that I am kind of dragging my feet on finishing it because it has been such a wonderful project having my stitches right next to my mother’s. But…………this room is going to be so cool and I know that I am going to love walking past it and seeing this quilt on the bed all the time.
On Friday I was going through my hope chest because I found some things in my closest that I want to fit into it. While looking at all this stuff (and keepsakes) I realized that I should be using this stuff. I guess for so many years that I had the mind set that it was to be saved for a special time in my life…………while if I don’t start using it I will probably never use it.

I found this keepsake that my grandmother had given me for a Christmas gift in 1977. Since the furniture was hers I thought that it would be wonderful to put this little item out on the dresser. I just wish that she would have told me alittle more about it. Oh well, at least I have the card from her rolled up. So, I am going to keep the card with this gift from my grandmother.
I have been thinking that I should make something to put on the dresser and chest-a-drawers, but then I found these dollies and thought they would be perfect for the dresser. There were three, so it worked out wonderful. I just wish I knew who had made them.
I also found a piece that was embrodieried that I am going to put on here. I am so excited to have this room arranged so everyone that uses it can enjoy this beautiful furniture that was my grandmother’s.
The chair cannot really fit next to the dresser, so it will be at the end of the bed. While exploring my savings in my hope chest I found this Red Riding Hood doll that I made when I was still in high school.
In this pictures she is just very pleasant looking.
When her hood is flipped around her surprised or frightened face is exposed. (When her skirt is flipped over the wolf/grandmother side of the doll will be exposed.)
The wolf is looking pretty happy here.
When we moved to New York a leg on the headboard got broken off. It was just put in storage because the furniture was going to be in a room with a single bed and the headboard is to big for that size of bed. Since the room is now going to have a double bed I pulled out the headboard and Tom is in the process of fixing it so we can use it on the bed.
your room looks great. Brings back lots of memories seeing that furniture
The room is looking so nice, I can’t wait to stay in there. I think the generations unite is the perfect quilt for that room.
Have fun painting your room!
Mary Anne, you are so fortunate to have items of such sentimental value from your Grandmother! I don’t think I know anyone who has a Hope Chest.
BTW… I love the Little Red Riding Hood Doll. She is just precious.
